all seems a bit of a con - i paid £1800 for a new boiler then it was £1200 for a day's work to basically fit a box on the wall and weld a few pipes

What hammer205 said... all contracted out... so all you are doing is paying OTT for the logo... got a few MATES in the plumbing trade and all say the same thing... absolute con re BG. Tried to talk my Nan (RIP) out of boiler renewal she had from BG ... my MATE who put mine in originally could shave over £1000 off her installation price... but no she wanted experienced British Gas fitters... she wouldn't have it that they were all contractors ... bloody grand more she could have left in her will !!

British Gas just fixed my 20 year old boiler under contract. £400 of parts. No hard sell for a new one, no moaning, turned up on time. First rate.

Thanks all but my engineer is due today with my shiny new boiler.

Manuel indeed, but I can't see the icons on my phone so never search..

Only problem with a British Gas installation is they tend to contract out and don’t use their own people

Also they install too quick lane cut corners just to get to the next job

If it’s not a dire emergency get a quote from British Gas and ignore it for a couple weeks, they then come back with a discounted offer which will come close to a quote you might get from an independent engineer only you’ll get the service and support from a big company.

Re: Need a new boiler, has anyone on here used Boxt?
I also got a new Worcester Bosch put in by British Gas - three years interest free starting in summer 2021.

Had only been in the house for 18 mths and had inherited a 3 year old Baxi boiler - it was playing up all the time and I’d spent £600 on repairs and parts iso had enough and got it replaced.

Sadly both the properties I bought had crap quality boilers so had to have a new one installed twice.

British Gas were pretty good to be fair.

British Gas replaced mine in the summer, £2850, interest free for 3 years, 5 year guarantee and an app to control off your phone

I was once asked by a chinese bloke I worked with, if I serviced my own boiler. told him not to talk about my wife in such a derogatory manner. He spent the next half an hour explaining what he meant, and did not unberstand when I kept trying to explain it was a joke.

My old boiler was costing me a king's ransom - so I divorced her. Gave me 3 cracking kids though, so not all bad.

Zico - a lot do finance.. Boxt do you can get a top boiler for £50 a month. Yeah it works out expensive in the long run but fully covered for parts and labour for the duration.

My plumber has said he can match their price, doubt with the nest thrown in.. But he's around the corner so that's worth a lot.

Only may have a problem sourcing it..

Will be watching this thread with interest. Mine is a 22 year old Potterton Suprima. Nightmare in the early days with two PCB replacements but touch wood it has been ok since. Aware it's probably not as economical as todays boilers but I can't afford a new one unless any installers do instalments, which is unlikely. Homeserve were offering me insurance, from various packages. Only company so far who said they would insure a 22 boiler as I don't think home and contents fully covers it. If an expert to cast their eyes over the below and see if any of these packages are worth it I would appreciate it. I have the boiler, danfoss programming box in airing cupboard (although auto heating button is knackered) and what I assume is wi fi thermostat box elsewhere, along with a hot water tank. Thanks

Yeah I said this to my plumber and he said after a decent examination that it was functioning brilliantly for it's age !

Not like me ;-)

Re: Need a new boiler, has anyone on here used Boxt?
Baxi have been running a deal in which you sign up for their service plan (£18 per month) and they cover parts and labour on the whole boiler. I did this. They then spent the next six months replacing every removable part on the boiler. I think only the casing is original now. I had two control units out of them. I guess you could argue they should have fixed it first time, but apart from one error where they misconnected something, they basically worked their way through the boiler until it was mint condition. I now have the veritable Trigger's broom of a boiler. If they still do the deal, I would give them a call. (I have no connection with Baxi other than as a customer, by the way).

Re: Need a new boiler, has anyone on here used Boxt?
A 38 year old boiler will be using a minimum of 50% more and possibly closer to twice as much fuel as a new one Ted

Re: Need a new boiler, has anyone on here used Boxt?
Last 2 years had a few call outs... one a leak and another expansion bag went ... so when we had another leak a month or so ago (divertor valve over £400) for me it was a no brainer.

Re: Need a new boiler, has anyone on here used Boxt?
Ted - Yeah leave it if it's fine.

Ours I think is around 15 we didn't install, but is leaking.

All parts seem to be discontinued but getable, but who wants to be without hot water and heating while you search for them.. Going to be a money drain
